North Main Street Traffic Signal Improvements Project
Project Location:
Along North Main Street between Navajo Drive and Chaparral Street
Project Background:
Staff’s evaluation of the City’s collision data revealed that the segment of North Main Street between Navajo Drive and Chaparral Street had a high number of correctable collisions. The evaluation revealed that crashes may be reduced by installing countermeasures, specifically a traffic signal at the intersection of North Main Street and Navajo Drive and a median island to restrict the uncontrolled left turns from Chaparral Street to North Main Street.
The new state of the traffic signal will better serve patrons of the new award-winning El Gabilan Library. Enhanced amenities including accessible pedestrian signals, pedestrian countdown features, leading pedestrian intervals, and high-visibility crosswalks will increase and encourage safe travels for pedestrians and motorists.
